Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide a balanced visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts. In Drawing AB, emphasis is on the development of student's skills and knowledge to improve object representation using line, value, shape, and composition. The course is centered upon the study of drawing in historical and contemporary times and aesthetic criteria relevant to their understanding and appreciation. Students' are prepared for advanced classes in the visual arts, and with knowledge of careers.

Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide a balanced visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts. In Cartooning and Animation, students learn about the history and techniques of illustration, cartooning and animation in conjunction with learning about their aesthetic properties. The course includes freehand drawing and rendering, layout, and the use of basic drawing tools and various materials for the reproduction of images. Students' study uses for and thematic elements, character development, and visual effects incorporated into political and social cartoons in historical and contemporary times. Careers in cartooning, animation and interactive gaming will be discussed.

Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide a balanced visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts. Introduction to Art provides a foundation of visual arts knowledge and skills and their connections to other subjects, and explores the discipline in depth both intellectually and experientially. The course serves as a prerequisite for all advanced visual arts courses in high school.

Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide a balanced visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts. In Design, students gain knowledge of the organization of the elements of art and principles of design through their application to studio arts projects in two- and three-dimensions. In this basic course, an increased understanding of art history, aesthetic valuing and making connections with other subjects occur as students develop the rudimentary tools to analyze his or her visual environment. The course supports learning in other content areas and encourages lifelong learning.

Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide a balanced visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts. In Advanced Placement Studio Art Two - Dimensional students examine in depth the history, aesthetic traditions, process and content of two-dimensional design. Both creativity and a systematic investigation of the elements of art and principles of design are encouraged. Students should show evidence of conceptual, perceptual, expressive, and technical range. The course is planned for the highly motivated student interested in the serious study of art and may be accepted for college credit if the student qualifies on the CEEB Advanced Placement examination through successfully engaging in the portfolio process.

Course Description: The major emphasis of this course is to develop student achievement through beginning level techniques in playing orchestral or band instruments. The course develops the physical skills necessary to play beginning level music accurately and with good tone quality, and develops skills in reading music notation. The course also provides opportunities for growth in the understanding of musical elements as applied to the music played.

Course Description: The major emphasis of this course is to develop student achievement through the study of more difficult choral music. Students develop the ability to sing with considerable skill, accuracy, and sensitivity. The course provides for improvement in vocal tone quality through breath support and ear training, for increased skill in sight singing, and for more highly developed aesthetic appreciation and critical judgment. The course also provides for increased skill in ensemble singing in small and large groups, and enlarges students’ acquaintance with standard choral literature.

Course Description: This course provides intermediate theatre students with the opportunity to study theatre through the process of planning, producing, rehearsing and presenting full-length and short plays.  Continued growth and development of students’ acting, directing and technical skills may be demonstrated through regular public performance events on campus, in the community or at theatre festivals.  Students will develop writing skills through preparation of character analyses, performance critiques and playwriting.  Opportunities for original work, improvisations, and advanced acting projects may be included. Students will explore the essential question of how the development of acting skills, an understanding directorial and design concepts and the relationships among theatre company members influence the production and performance of plays.
