Here are my thoughts on summer work: I want it to be meaningful, enjoyable, and reasonable. Overloading you with tedious assignments just to “set the tone” for the class isn’t my style and doesn’t really benefit you (remember this when we’re writing lots next year).  The tasks below are designed to support your learning and just get you enjoying what you read on multiple levels.

Note Regarding the Summer Assignment:

Everything in the assignment below is designed to support your learning in the fall. It is all meaningful. Extended time will be granted to those who need it, however, completing the assignment during the summer will mean less work for you when we return.  Also, you’ll be able to take the time to absorb and consider the ideas you read. You'll also get to slowly enjoy your novel of choice.
