Coaches information

Important Coaches information

Anyone interested in becoming a coach at King Drew must complete the following:

  1. Coaches Application - The athletic director will send a direct link to the applicant.
  2. Coaches certification - See "LAUSD" Coaching requirements below.
Further, the King Drew Athletic Department has the following expectations for all its coaches:
  • Rapport - Relate to and establish rapport with players.
  • Fundamentals - Demonstrate an awareness of the fundamentals of your sport.
  • Academics - Understand and value the role that academics plays in a King Drew student-athlete's school experience.
  • Foundation - Establish a strong foundation to your JV program.
  • Communication - Demonstrate an ability to clearly communicate with parents and the athletic administration.
  • Administration - Keep your certifications up-to-date as well as adhere to all LAUSD requirements in regards to fundraising.

LAUSD Coaching requirements

It is the coach's responsibility to keep up-to-date on all coaching certifications. This includes keeping records of each certificate and updating a certificate when necessary.
  • Coaching Fundamentals  - (Completed once -- good for a lifetime)
  • First Aid/CPR (Updated every 2 years, LAUSD only accepts American Heart Association or America Red Cross certifications.)
  • Heat Prevention Illness  - (Updated every 2 years)
  • Concussion Training (Updated every 2 years)
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest (Updated every 2 years)
  • Code of Conduct S.B.435 (Signed at the beginning of the season every season)
  • Child Abuse (Completed through the district - updated yearly)
  • Suicide Awareness (Completed through the district- updated yearly)
 
Volunteer Coaches
If you would like to be a volunteer coach at King Drew please first establish your volunteer account with LAUSD. To do so please read this document. All employees must meet the following criteria:
  • All volunteer and paid coaches must be at least 21 years old at the time of processing.
  • Volunteer coaches may only be with the team only when a paid coach is present.  This includes practice, contests, and riding on the bus to and from the contest.
